Quickie.
Tiga sahabat—Dirga, Raina dan Irvi; memiliki keistimewaan tersendiri di hati pemilik kedai KopiKita, Om Ben. Selain mereka bertiga adalah pelanggan tetap KopiKita, kedekatan mereka bertiga mengingatkan Om Ben akan kehangatan ‘rumah’. Karena itulah saat ketiganya dirundung masalah ‘hati’ karena persoalan pelik cinta masing-masing—Dirga dengan bayangan mantan kekasih yang meninggalkannya menikah dengan lelaki lain, Irvi dengan pacar sempurna yang tak yakin ia cintai dan Raina yang ditinggalkan pacar tanpa alasan; Om Ben akhirnya turun tangan membawa mereka pergi sejenak ke kampungnya di Belitung untuk mengistirahatkan benak dan memberinya ruang tenang untuk mengambil sisi cerah dari masalah-masalah.

The Taste.
Disappointed.
Really.

I guess it was my fault to be a mostly visual person and fell into this gorgeousness of its front cover. And a silent pray for it to be a bestfriend-to-lover trope. Definitely my fault.
But.. the premise was good, really.. Finding light from a dark phase of love life whatsoever is always nice. But why couldn’t it work with this one?

Apalagi ini dikerjakan berdua oleh dua nama yang punya track record kepenulisan yang tidak bisa dibilang baru.

Entah apa yang salah.

I can’t even relate to any of the characters. IMO, this novel failed to make me believe that the trio’s bond is that deep. Tho if i may choose, i would pick Irvi as my favorite among the trio for her dedication at work and damned the girl knew what she did at work to make her looked awesome.

Bisa jadi juga karena dua penulis ini gagal membuat koneksi yang smooth antar karakter, di beberapa bab, antar kalimat; di hampir semua sisi yang sebenarnya bisa membuat novel ini jadi sangat menarik.
Sedihnya malah membuat kalimat-kalimat—yang meski diksinya di beberapa bagian cukup ‘nyastra’—yang ditampilkan jadi berkesan dangkal dan amatir. Seperti karya pertama dari seorang pemula.

Alur maju mundur yang choppy. Background cerita dari karakter yang ngga bisa dibangun sempurna sehingga kesan tentang mereka seperti lewat sambil lalu.

Bahkan deskripsi tentang kecantikan tempat-tempat destinasi dalam novel ini tidak bisa mendongkrak nilai tambah.

I admit i’m not bit a really good writer, but i think i read enough pieces to sort whether a book is enjoyable enough.And to cringe the whole ride is enough to give this novel 1.5 points out of 5, mostly for its gorgeous cover once again. Sorry, not sorry.

Meski semuanya kembali juga ke masalah selera pada akhirnya.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han : When 'No Longer Secrets' will change your Life forever

Quickie. (alert for some spoiler material)

Lara Jean, part caucasian, part korean, live in her peaceful teenage bubble with her father, big sis Margot and baby sis Kitty. Their Mom passed away when Kitty was still so little, so they technically has taken care of each other ever since.

They shared everything as sisters. But not one thing for Lara jean : her love life. She’s quite closed when it comes to that. She never told her sisters about the boys she liked or the ones she got crushes on. But she wrote everything in her letters. One for every boy she liked including her sister’s ex-boyfriend and long-time neighbor, Josh. She thought that this was her way to get rid of her feeling over those boys. Once she wrote every drop of fondness out, there would be none left.

The thing was she never had any intention to send those letters to said boys. They were all kept, safely locked inside this vintage hat box from her mother.

Things got messy when one day, Peter K, one of the boys she wrote the letter to, brought those familiar written papers and asked her what was it all about? From there, Lara Jean discovered that all those letters for boys she liked had been sent without her knowing.

It was easy to dodge the other boys, boy from summer camp practically disappeared, her childhood classmate was turned out to be a gay, and Peter belonged to school’s queen, Genevieve. And another one had moved to another city since middle school.

But Josh was another thing, since he was her family’s favorite. Plus Lara Jean wasnt so sure herself that she was over him.

Here, unexpectedly Peter K proposed a plan that could be a way out of both Lara Jean’s and his problem respectively. He tried to get away from Genevieve while Lara Jean must prove that she really had no feeling for Josh. They made up a fake relationship.

But what if things got worse onward? Like.. if Josh suddenly told her that he actually had feelings for her too. Or Lara Jean slowly felt different toward Peter K, as if their relationship was no longer fake and she felt a pang of jealousy everytime Peter was with Genevieve. Did she start loving Peter for real?

The taste.

It was an enjoyable read. At a glance being a typical YA novel with super awesome male character and quirky girl on the show. But turned out it was wrapped out in a nice way with the touch of envious sister bonds and warm family bickerings.

At some parts you would feel frustrated to how Lara jean acted toward all the boys and her character progress that seemed so slow-paced. But it couldnt be helped right, i was a moron myself back then when i was 16. Not that i‘m miraculously becoming a genius either today, tho. But adolescence is moment when you makes mistake, realize it and try to make it better for tomorrow’s sake.

This is a fun reading despite the flaws (probably one of my favorite YA pieces) and the sequel is my most anticipated piece for this first half of 2015. It will come on May, 26. Which is just a couple of days from now.
Cant wait.

 guess i was too invested to kdrama world until i seemed to neglect this blog..
fiuhh..

 melihat kegagalan saya di tahun-tahun lalu, membuat target bacaan segunung lalu tiba-tiba stuck dengan rasa malas, kerjaan dan life issue di tengah jalan hingga akhirnya target bacaan itu tidak pernah conquerable; i reduce the target significantly this year.

 20 buku saja.

 i'm ashamed by those numbers, truly.
20 bukan angka seorang bookfreak. 20 means you just read 1-2 book in average monthly.
Tapi angka itu begitu logis saat hingga akhir maret begini saya baru menyelessaikan satu bacaan.

 yes, that INFERNO by Dan Brown.

 i was in love with this author and his Angel & Demons, Lost Symbol and Digital Fortress.

 Jadi begitu novel ini muncul, saya kalap pingin buru-buru baca.
surprise much, novel ini mengalami hiatus baca di bab kedua hampir selama dua bulan penuh.

 No, Langdon masih seorang simbolog awesome yang seakan isi otaknya jadi kamus simbol berjalan. seems like he knows almost everything.
Dan kita masih dibawa berkelana menyusuri tempat-tempat eksotis di belahan bumi tempat sejarah terbentuk dan jadi akar masa depan.

 kali ini dalam Inferno kita akan disuguhi dengan begitu banyak Dante.

 i'm not really familiar with Dante dan hasil karyanya yang luar biasa mendunia itu. Perkenalan pertama saya dengan Dante (dan Beatrice) terjadi di sebuah akun fanfiksi twilight dimana Edward adalah seorang profesor spesialis Dante dan Bella jadi mahasiswa post-graduate dia dan mereka berdua terlibat sebuah hubungan terlarang di kampus. ok, out of topic.

 Inferno diawali dengan kondisi sureal yang dialami Langdon saat dia tiba-tiba terbangun di sebuah Rumah Sakit di Florence, luka bebat di kepala dan ingatan yang hilang selama 24 jam terakhir.
Dia dikejar seorang pembunuh bayaran yang menyerangnya di Rumah Sakit itu namun berhasil kabur berkat pertolongan seorang dokter muda bernama Sienna Brooks.
Bersama Sienna Brooks inilah Langdon berjibaku memecahkan kode dalam proyektor mini yang ditemukan di dalam lipatan jaket tweednya, mengembalikan ingatannya yang hilang dan berpacu dengan waktu untuk menyelamatkan dunia. (tsah)

 Yes, there was this dr. Evil genius, who decided to create such hazardous virus, threat to shake the world peace.
Dan si dr. Evil genius ini ada penggemar Dante hingga ancaman tentang virus berbahaya yang ia ciptakan ini juga disiratkan dalam simbol-simbol dan kalimat yang berkaitan dengan karya Dante, terutama Inferno. Naas sebelum dr. Evil genius ini bisa ditangkap dan dipaksa untuk menggagalkan rencananya, dia memutuskan untuk bunuh diri.
Disinilah bantuan Langdon dibutuhkan untuk memecahkan kode dan simbol Dante itu dan menemukan dimana virus itu disembunyikan sebelum tersebar.
We would travel from Florence, Venice to Turkey with Langdon for finding that thing.

 such a marvelous travel indeed.

 Entah kenapa saya merasa novel ini kurang 'rasa' kalau dibandingkan novel-novel Dan Brown sebelumnya, padahal premis cerita ini lumayan. 
Mungkin karena pace-nya agak lambat atau symbol decoding dalam cerita ini nggak begitu menggigit seperti cerita-cerita Langdon sebelumnya.

 Tapi pesan dalam novel ini yang disampaikan oleh dr. Evil tentang bahaya overpopulasi buat dunia bikin saya berpikir banyak. You know, me and my job, helping people and help them to stay alive.. itu membantu lebih banyak orang tetap ada dan menggunakan sumber daya bumi. Membuat bumi makin sakit. isn't it?

yep, three stars out of five.

i read randomly and jumpy. and a little bit influenced by mood. err.. a little bit much.

just getting near at the end of Partikel by Dewi Lestari and put my hardest effort to finnish Love, Stargirl, Gabriel's Inferno and some other readings.

but i think, when Inheritance arrive (which is tomorrow or the day after, i guess) then i would put aside the old readings and begin to read the last novel of the Inheritance cycle.

i always have a thing with Eragon from the first time reading the cycle. perhaps it's because i got a crush with the author. *wink*

wish me luck, then.

Finally, the first novel yang saya baca paling akhir dari keseluruhan karya Ika Natassa.
Novel inilah yang bikin Ika Natassa dapet tempat di Khatulistiwa Literary Awards sebagai salah satu newcomer muda berbakat.

Novel ini sempat teronggok cukup lama di bookshelf tanpa saya sentuh. Dia kalah pamor dengan Hunger Games Trilogy. Saya ingat baru baca sekitar dua lembar sebelum put this book aside awhile.

Bercerita tentang bankir muda, cantik, smart dan melek fashion, Andrea, yang of course punya pacar cakep dengan 5 o’clock shadownya yang bikin melting itu. Too bad, si pacar, Adjie, bankir juga, sekantor dengannya pula. Padahal ada aturan di dalam kantornya bahwa sesama pegawai dilarang memiliki relationship yang berbau-bau romansa, apalagi sampai terikat pernikahan.

Ternyata, hubungan Andrea dan Adjie ini berjalan jauh lebih serius dari yang awalnya diperkirakan karena suatu hari, Adjie melamar Andrea jadi istrinya. Dan dari sinilah twisted life of Andrea Siregar dimulai. Sejak masalah pegawai baru yang cantik yang nempel-nempel melulu sama si Adjie, ke-gep sama atasan sampai masalah dengan mantan pacar Andrea yang tiba-tiba muncul.

This novel reminds me of things that my friend said. Bahwa menjelang pernikahan, godaan dalam sebuah hubungan akan muncul makin bertubi-tubi. Yang mana itu bakal menguji sejauh mana hubungan itu bakal bertahan. Kalau survive sampai menikah itu berarti titik awal pondasi dalam rumah tangga nantinya.

*sigh*
Well, don’t ask me.. never experience it. Yet.
Iya, saya belum menikah dan belum pernah terlibat dengan sebuah hubungan seserius itu. *curcol*

Ada hal yang terlalu cheesy yang saya rasa dari novel ini. Entah bagian kepopuleran dua karakter utamanya yang terlalu semena-mena, atau pertengkaran mereka yang kadang bikin saya mendesah capek. Because in my opinion, buat sebuah hubungan dengan komitmen serekat itu, isu-isu macam pegawai-muda-baru-yang-cantik-dan-deket-sama-calon-laki-gue-itu bisa diredam dalam konversasi dan nggak berakibat useless fight yang akhirnya bikin dahi saya berkerut heran. Was that fight worth it. I mean was that issue was worth to argue about?

Yah, walaupun begitu, saya cukup menikmati, kok, novel ini. Buktinya, sekali dilanjutkan setelah sekian lama teronggok, saya bisa mengakhirinya dalam sekali lahap. Walaupun agak puyeng juga disuguhkan dengan istilah-istilah perbankan yang cukup bikin sakit mata. 

Still, my favorite is Antologi Rasa and Divortiare.
So, 2 out of 5 stars? :)

Buat yang kangen sama tulisannya Sitta Karina, seperti saya, pasti sudah menunggu sekali novel ini diterbitkan. I have been in love with her stories, the hanafiahs especially, dan sudah baca hampir seluruh novelnya. She’s awesome.

That’s why saat mendengar novel ini jadi best seller, saya nggak heran. But, saat itu dideklarasikan, saya belum sempat baca. Saya baru membaca novel ini beberapa hari yang lalu. And i read this in one shot. Maksudnya, dalam sekali lahap, novel ini sudah tamat, begitu.

Karena memang ini novel ringan. Dengan tema keluarga yang simpel namun mengcover kompleksitas peran ibu bekerja dalam sebuah rumah tangga.

Tentang isu-isu yang umum dalam sebuah keluarga urban seorang Hannah dan Wigra. Masalah pengasuh anak, metode pengasuhan anak, pembagian waktu antara bekerja dan being a mom issue, dan si anak, Razsya, yang beberapa kali membuat statement lebih betah dengan si pengasuh dibanding Hannah, ibunya. Insecurities dalam keluarga muda di tengah lingkungan urban yang kadang menyesakkan.

Iya, khas Sitta Karina, dengan tokoh-tokoh berkarakter yang kadang bikin kita wondering, ada nggak sih sosok seperti itu dalam kehidupan nyata. Wigra yang bijak luar biasa, dan bikin lumer hati pembaca. Oh, my.

But, this one isn’t my favorite. Ada scene-scene yang jumpy yang bikin ‘nah lho’ moment di tengah cerita. Seolah-olah cerita ini dipaksa untuk compact, padahal masih perlu elaborasi cerita, yang mungkin bikin novel ini makin kaya.

Overall, 2.5 out of 5 deh..
